Nisha Caiozzi

soprano / artist / educator / weird little guy

Nisha Caiozzi is a soprano, improviser, teacher, and multimedia artist. She is interested in exploring the sonic and community-building possibilities of the voice; including discovering new sounds within her own instrument. This love of vocal exploration has been vital to her desire to sing music by living composers and to expand the definition of art music. As an improviser, she has worked to create musical prompts that people of different musical backgrounds and different levels of experience can engage with. Nisha believes that musical spaces focused on openness, possibility, and listening can be used to deepen communal relationships.

Most recently, Nisha was a 2025 Bonfils-Stanton Foundation Studio Artist at Central City Opera. She sang the Nightingale in the company’s production of Once Upon a Mattress and performed in scenes as Johanna (Sweeney Todd), Laurie (The Tender Land), and Servilia (La clemenza di Tito); as well as singing in the all-woman ensemble of The Knock. Previously, she performed the role of Cupidon in Orphée aux enfers with The Fisher Center and as Lily in Rumshimsky’s Shir Hashirim for the YIVO Institute for Jewish Research. She has also sung full and partial roles with Bard Conservatory, Bel Canto in Tuscany, and Oberlin Conservatory.

As frequent recitalist with deep passion for performance both in and beyond the concert hall, Nisha most recently sang at Central City Opera’s Drag Me to the Opera, a collaborative, contemporary program that combines opera, pop, and drag. She sang with composer Jake Heggie while at the prestigious Songfest program in 2022, and performed in Bard Conservatory’s Follow the Lieder program. As a soprano soloist, she sang Listz’s Dante Symphony, Brahms’s Neue Liebeslieder Waltzer, and Handel’s Messiah. She also sang in the collaborative, multimedia recital program exploring the American relationship to land called This Land produced by The Flowchart Foundation.

Nisha has distinguished herself both academically and in several competitions, winning 2nd place at SongSLAM in 2024, a finalist position in Bard Conservatory’s 2024 Concerto Competition, and 4th Place in the NATS Great Lakes Region in 2020. She holds a Master of Music degree in Vocal Arts from Bard Conservatory (2025) and a Bachelor of Music degree in Voice Performance with a minor in Ethnomusicology and a concentration Pedagogy, Advocacy and Community Engagement from Oberlin Conservatory (2023). While at Oberlin, she received the Barry Busse ‘68 Scholarship, The Ruth Cogan Memorial Scholarship, and Conservatory Dean Scholarship.
